Arkansas vs. Arkansas State |
15 x 23 |
The long standing University of Arkansas policy of the two 1-A schools not playing each other was finally overcome when the Indians faced the Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Arkansas in the first round of the NIT, March 13, 1987. Dubbed by the state media as "The Sports Story of the Deceade," ASU took an undermanned squad into a frenzied atmosphere and nearly pulled off the upset. ASU's lead was 21 points with nearly ten minutes left to play when foul trouble began to plague the Indians. ASU still hung on long enough to force the game into overtime before falling to Arkansas 67 - 64. That game was the first time the Indians had played in a post season tournament sence moving to Division 1. |
